Description
The KUKA KR 150/180/210 S2000 family of robots is the update of one of the most popular industrial robot types. BMW, Volkswagen Audi Group, Daimler and many more use them. The lightweight arm is of a single sided design that gives an improved work envelope. The KUKA KR150/180/210 range are multi-purpose 6 axis robots and can be used in a wide range of applications, from palletizing to milling, welding, de-burring and machine tending. The arm is largely constructed of aluminum making it nearly half the mass of a comparable ABB robot. This means it is faster and more energy efficient. The base of the robot has forklift points built in. The arm is sealed to IP65.
The S2000 uses a mechanical balance spring that is simpler and lower maintenance than a gas spring. The arm has been designed to allow easy servicing and better routing of cables.
The KR C2 controller, like the KR C1, is PC based and runs windows. Because of this it has a huge amount of free memory and has great connectivity, better than a comparable ABB controller for example. Physically the KR C2 controller is very compact and can be stacked. The cables from Controller to robot are 10m long. The controller has both CD rom and floppy disc drives. The KRC2 has built in 16 inputs and 16 outputs of up to 100mA and a further 4 outputs at up to 2A these are on the X11 connector along with the safety circuit connections. The I/O can be easily expanded using devicenet units up to a total of 1024 inputs and 1024 outputs. Fibre optic Interbus is available as an option.
The KCP teach pendant as a very large colour screen and a unique 6-axis joystick, although many prefer to simply use the buttons to control the axis. The good screen means that the pendant can be used as a good alternative to a separate HMI. As well as programming via the pendant programs can be written or edited using wordpad or ultraedit. For full offline programming and simulation Kuka have their Simpro software available.
